Mildred Lee Brodie was born on May 2, 1932 in Franklinton, North Carolina to parents Marshall and Holly Brodie. She had several sisters and brothers. One sister and three brothers are deceased. Living sisters and brothers are: Sallie Mae Winston, Sarah Kearney, Ralph Alfonso Brodie, Polly Kearney, Johnnie Brodie, Barbra Kay Montague, Glennis Edward Brodie and Maria F. Glasco.
Mildred graduated from B.F. Persons Academy and attended nursing school and worked as a nurse at Rex Hospital, Raleigh, North Carolina. She worked there for awhile and moved to Roselle, New Jersey living with her aunt and uncle, Lucinda and Wiley Mann.
After finding a job in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Mildred worked as a nurse's assistant for the Elizabeth General Hospital for several years. She then worked for Lermer Plastics in Garwood, New Jersey and then retired.
Mildred became the mother of Michael Brodie. She and her son both attended and became members of Second Baptist Church in Roselle. Michael attended Roselle Public Schools and graduated from Abraham Clark High School.
When her son became a father, Mildred became grandmother to Michael Cordero Brodie and Trevor Griggs and great grandmother to Michael Brodie III.
Mildred moved to Westfield for awhile and met many folks and made friends. She had relatives, aunts and cousins who lived in Westfield and was quite happy there.
Then she returned to Roselle and lived there for several years. Many people knew her very well from the routine of living in town and seeing her on a regular basis. Friends were made, good neighbors were had and it was a happy time too! Then an accident changed her life!
Mildred loved her church. She went faithfully and enjoyed learning about the Lord! As a matter of fact, her favorite hymn was "One Day At A Time Sweet Jesus".
We have memories to help remember our family, our friends, our childhood and all things that happen to us, good or bad! Let us remember Mildred, as a mother, a relative, a friend, a co-worker, a neighbor and a Sister in Christ and give thanks to God!
