Deacon David Brown

Deacon David Brown was born on July 17, 1935 in Richland, Georgia, son of the late Cloude and Essie Lee Thornton Brown. David, the middle child of five siblings, was educated in the Georgia Public School system and migrated to New Jersey in 1955.

Upon his arrival to New Jersey, David began a 45-year career as a long distance and local Truck Driver for Allied Lumber Company and Aubrey Freight Lines. In September of 2002, he retired from A & P Supermarket Services after 17 years.

David was a devoted member of the White Rock Baptist Church for over 50 years. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1981 and was known for his heartfelt, fervent prayers and a concern for those in need. He also served as a member of the Male Chorus, Coordinator for Homegoing Services, Chairman of the Trustee Board, and an Advisor to the Pastor's Aid Committee, the Deaconess Ministry and the Kitchen Ministry. Deacon David Brown was a well-respected man of integrity who meant what he said and he said what he meant.
David loved his church and adored his family. When he was feeling well, he would drive his van, "Lucille" to go check on his church, visit with his brother Albert, and drop by his daughter, Rene's house to watch old westerns with his son-in-law, Anthony.

On Tuesday, March 7, 2017, surrounded by his loved ones Deacon David Brown entered into eternal rest at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway, New Jersey at the age of 81.

He was preceded in death by his son and daughter, Kevin Brown and Towanda Brown; brother, James Brown; and three brothers-in-law, Louie Mack, Otis Taylor and Willie Edward Boyd.

David leaves to cherish fond memories, his loving wife of 27 years, Deaconess Annie Mae Brown; 3 daughters: Sharon Elaine Marshall (Anthony) of Winston-Salem, NC, Rene Smalls (Anthony) of Linden, NJ and Eunice Foster of Linden, NJ; one brother, Albert Brown (Kathleen) of Linden, NJ; two sisters: Claudia Taylor of Linden, NJ and Ethel Mack of Linden, NJ; 10 grandchildren: Kevin Christopher (Kristine), Baron (Nateisha), Jamel (Lindsay), James (Audra), Sandra, Stacey (Nicholas), Andrea, Chimere, Brianna and Brielle; 13 great-grandchildren: Yasmine, Kelise, Zaria, Autumn, Colin, Amori, Jahmiq, Jahlea, Rokia, Raeona, Tristen, Jayden and Ava; one brother-in-law, Jimmy Boyd (Shirley) of Winston-Salem, NC; three sisters-in-law, Frances Sherard (Waunzo), Eloise Boyd, and Otelia Boyd, all of Winston-Salem, NC; a special cousin, Rose McGhee of Columbus, Georgia; two spiritual sons: Deacon Caleb Brown (Janice) of Linden, NJ and Minister Michael Lester, Sr. (Cynthia) of Linden, NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and his White Rock Baptist Church family.
